I get it. You don’t want to get caught up in the whole “new year, new me” stuff because it’s annoying, and by the third week in January, we all give up anyway. But it is a new year, and that does mean something. Remember, back in 2019, how you said 2020 would be your year? Don’t give up on that! Stick to your word. We’re all blessed to see another year. Don’t take this blessing lightly. I’ve got seven habits that you’ll need to make 2020 your year for real.
1. Make Goals
This year we’re not going to live aimlessly. Let’s not make 2020 a stressful year. We are getting and keeping are stuff together this year. You can do this by making goals. Have goals for the month, the week, and the days. I have a goal-setting sheet you can use to make at least two goals for every month, week, and day. This allows you to know what you are striving for, so you can make wiser decisions. This leads to more time and more things getting done. Also, the feeling that you’ve accomplished something will be amazing.
It’s also vital to make yearly goals. I usually make a vision board to do this. Check out my vision board here!
2. Have Routines
Another habit you need in 2020 is to make good habits. Create different healthy habits like going to the gym, taking yoga classes, having a specific day to cook or clean. Having healthy habits is important. Make good routines. AND STICK TO THEM. Self-Discipline Is Key! Create a morning routine and a night routine. Create a cleaning routine, a skincare routine. Routines help us make the most of our days and weeks. This is how we become our most efficient selves in 2020.
3. Journaling
This habit is incredible for your mental health. And good mental health is going to be essential to have in 2020. Personally, for me, journaling is a little like therapy. It allows you to clear your mind and your heart. You get your feelings and thoughts out on paper. Journaling gives a better understanding of what’s going on in and around you. Writing about things can be freeing. You need this habit because being in tune with your feelings is healthy. This is an excellent way to start and end your days or weeks. You can get cute, cheap journals from Amazon, Walmart, Target, TJ Maxx OR Marshalls.
4. Devotion
Starting and ending your day with worship and prayer is probably one of the most important habits you need in 2020. Just beginning your day with God can change the course of your entire day. Devotion gives you something to focus on for the day. It shapes how you view things for the rest of your day. I love using the Youversion Bible app, but you can but devotionals or just listen to God for your devotion.
5. Money Habits
Save. Your. Coins. (This one’s for me too! ) We are not going to be struggling financially in 2020. Claim it! Save your money. I know our first impulse is to buy. 2020 make saving your first impulse. You can set up automatic deposits to your savings account. Different apps will help with this. Digit is an excellent app that many people use
We’re also now making wise money choices. Invest. Start businesses or blogs. Go to school or sell clothes/artwork. There are also lots of cashback services that you can use. For me, I use Ibotta. It gives you cashback immediately after you shop. It has so many stores, and it even works for online shopping too. I use it mostly when I grocery shop, and I love it. If you’re going to spend money, you might as well make some back. Click here to sign up for Ibotta!
6. Read
I think we all know reading is an important habit to have. For some reason, we still don’t do it. But this is a habit you need. Reading books expands your knowledge. It allows you to learn and to grow. There are so many different books that can help with so many different things. If you need somewhere to start, for January, I’ll be reading Radiant by Priscilla Shirer, you can join me!
7. Less Phone, More Life
Put down your phone this year. Every time I see the screen time notification pop up, I get sick. I know you do too. Let’s do better in 2020. Every time you get the urge to look at your phone, do something else. Do breathing exercises. People watch, take in the world around you. Start a conversation, play games with your friends. Interact more with life instead of Instagram. This habit will make 2020 filled with more memories.
