I have one little sister and two baby girl cousins. I often think about them growing older, and having to face this world.
I mean, what’s it like being a woman in this world? It’s hard. We are met with so many obstacles. We are told things about our capabilities and our bodies. We are given impossible standards to live up to. Often, we get unfair chances and are treated as inferior. On top of all this, we are told that we’re too emotional, too sensitive, too weak.
However, when I look at the girls and women in my life. I see strong, smart, capable women. I see women that work hard, trust God, and defy any standard, any obstacle this world throws at them.
Sometimes we need a reminder of who we are as women. So here ten affirmations for every strong girl:
- I will overcome any obstacle this world throws at me.
- I am not too emotional, too sensitive, or too weak
- When I see injustices within my community, or in the world, I will not turn away.
- I work hard.
- I trust God.
- I defy any unfair standard and break any mold.
- I am a leader.
- I am strong.
- I am smart.
- I am capable.
Recently, I was introduced to the story of Deborah, a strong, smart, capable woman in the Bible. Deborah was a prophet, and one of the rulers of Isreal. She saw the injustices that her people were experiencing and decided to do something about it. This decision resulted in 40 years of peace for the Israelites. You can read more of the story in Judges 4 And just like Deborah, we can do something about the injustices we see around the world.
Right now, there are girls all over the world that are facing many obstacles when trying to gain an education. Many girls are denied the right to education because they are simply girls. Enter the Malala Fund, started by the amazing and fierce Malala Yousafzai. This organization is working to give girls around the globe access to education and learning. It’s amazing to see the work they’re doing and the impact they’re making. You can visit them here. The Malala Fund is choosing to not turn a blind eye to these injustices. Neither am I. You shouldn’t either.
“Malala Fund is working for a world where every girl can learn and lead.“
