“For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true” ~ Ephesians 5:9 NLT
I have the opportunity to be a part of an incredible college ministry. Our pastor, one night, was speaking on mirrors, and something he said stuck with me. ” The word of God is a mirror” The more we look into it, the more we find our identity” This shocked me because it’s truth. The more we read, we find ourselves and our purpose.
While in the process of re-branding 13thbeginnings, I had this experience, of finding your identity within the Word. In January 2019, I made a goal to read all of Paul’s letters in the Bible. Although all of his books are amazing, (and you should read them!) it was Galatians and Ephesians, that gave me this “mirror” experience.
In Galatians,
Paul explains the call God placed on his life. Peter and some of the other disciples were called to bring the Gospel to the Jews. However, Paul explains that his purpose was to share the Gospel with the Gentiles. The Gentiles were the outcasts, the lost, the ones who were forgotten and treated unequally.
Instead, they saw that God had given me the responsibility of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as he had given Peter the responsibility of preaching to the Jews. 8For the same God who worked through Peter as the apostle to the Jews also worked through me as the apostle to the Gentiles.
Galatians 2:7-8 New Living Translation (NLT)
In Ephesians,
Paul describes the light that is within each of us who love God. This light is the light of Christ that He places within us. Paul talks a lot about Christ in Ephesians. He says that we are to follow the example of Christ. And to do this, we must live as “people of light.”
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
Ephesians 5:8-9 New Living Translation (NLT)
God used these two books to reveal his purpose for me and my blog. To bring light to the Gentiles of society — the people who are different, who are set apart, who dare to be original. And to show them the light within me, and within them through Jesus Christ.
I also believe that it is essential to remind ourselves of the light that is within us. We can do this by reading scriptures and spending time with God. To help us remember our light, I’ve created a desktop and iPhone wallpaper, and a sticker. I never want you to forget who you are and what you have within.
